24th Kalamata Dance Festival 2018

13-22 July 2018

Artistic Director: Linda Kapetanea

Artistic note

It’s my great joy and honour to welcome you to the 24th Kalamata International Dance Festival.

I’m grateful for being given the opportunity to be the Festival’s Artistic Director so that I may share with you today my never-ending love of dance and my vision for this prestigious event, its national and international role.

I believe in dance as a basic human need.

I believe in dance that defines the meaning of humanity and unlocks the potential of humanity.

As a dancer, choreographer, and viewer, my interest is firmly on dance in the service of the creative urge, resonating with our non-verbal discovery of the world.

Together with my collaborators, we have envisioned, and work towards, a Festival that is open to the arts, to research and education, for all ages and walks of life, to the city of Kalamata, to the world; a Festival that is generous and supportive for artists, with a range of activities spread throughout the year and a strong presence on the global culture map.

Feeling a need to demonstrate that dance has the power to inspire, this year we sought to bring centre stage dance masters, multifaceted artists, and extraordinary performers.

We have invited acts that test the limits of the human body, so that we may reflect on our own abilities as well as find the strength to achieve our goals and dreams. We have prepared a rich programme, featuring artists and performers who are restless, fearless, agile, risky, wild, funny, enchanting, subversive, poignant, groundbreaking, enigmatic, unstoppable.

They’re coming. They are here. I sincerely hope you enjoy them heartily.
